What surface preparation is required for a cleanroom crane?
Good question. The answer depends on your specific needs, but there are certain elements that influence your choice. Does your company process acids or salts? Because these have a different effect on the surface of your equipment than, say, powder. Does the crane need to be UV resistant? And what is the environment of your cleanroom? If it is very humid, you might want to consider using a stainless-steel solution.
Risks of a wrong coating
Generally speaking, coatings are better for the dry industry. Because if you use synthetics without surface treatment, they can absorb moisture and create a perfect attachment spot for bacteria. Which is out of the question for a cleanroom. Additionally, a coating also protects steel against acids and oxygenates, and prevents oxidation. Oxidation will affect the surface of your lifting and hoisting equipment.
A general rule of thumb
A correct surface treatment realizes a smooth and closed surface. Meaning: without holes or cracks. Because micro bacteria can grow in the smallest open spaces, and you do not want that. Correct treatment is also easily washable. It should be cleaned until the desired grade, for example with a damp cloth or chemicals. And last but not least: your crane should be perfectly suited for your cleanroom.
